Meet Sabum SEE KEAN PIEW

Current rank:

Born & raised:

6th Dan ITF

Sungai Siput, a district near the City of Ipoh, Malaysia

I started my Taekwon-Do journey at the age of 9 years old. I loved martial arts from a very young age due to Bruce Lee's influence in movies.

Among my competition experiences, the most memorable was winning double Gold medal at the ITF World Cup in Slovenia 2022. I won Individual Senior Male Pattern 4-6 Dan & led the Malaysian men's team to win Gold medal in Senior Male Team Pattern. I have been Captain of Team Malaysia for both ITF World Cup & World Championship since year 2016.

My current titles:

1x World Champion
3x World Cup Champion
8x Asia Champion
10x Malaysia Open Champion
Multiple National Champion
1x World Cup Vice Champion
1x European Cup vice Champion

What’s next?:

My next immediate target is to repeat my double Gold achievement again at the ITF World Championship in Croatia 2025. This will be an inspiration to myself and Malaysia.

After I retire from tournaments, my ambition is to dedicate more time to the development of Taekwon-Do in Asia. I hope to share my experiences and philosophy with the younger generation to help sustain and enhance the growth of Taekwon-Do.

Delegation plays a crucial role in ensuring that the art of Taekwon-Do, as founded by General Choi, continues to thrive across generations. Of course, my vision is not limited to Asia alone—I aim to contribute to the advancement of Taekwon-Do worldwide.

My experience working with Mightyfist:

Mightyfist has been a reliable brand I trust. Always delivering the best quality in doboks and sparring equipment. I use these items all of the time.

Words of wisdom from Sabum Piew:

The best advice I’ve received by an instructor/coach:

Knowing what I know now, what would I tell my younger self:

"Master Yong Kin Chong motivates me to train harder and push beyond my limits—that’s the only way to truly prove myself." "I would tell my younger self to travel more—to explore different countries from an early age, participate in ITF World Cups, and various international tournaments. These experiences would have helped me grow not only as a competitor but also as a person."
