Meet Sabum MARIELLE LIND

Current rank:

Born & raised:

 ITF 5th Dan

Bergen, Norway

It all started in the fall of 2002. I was 11 when I noticed some family friends practicing ITF Taekwon-Do, it looked like so much fun! My mom thought it would be a great way for my sister, Madeleine, and me to learn self-defense, so we signed up for a beginner’s course together.

Our weekends were usually spent at the family cabin, so team sports like football or handball didn’t fit our schedule. Taekwon-Do, with its weekday sessions, was perfect… until we started competing and truly got hooked.

Years later, my two younger brothers also earned their black belts, and now all four of us share this incredible passion that has shaped our family.

ITF Taekwon-Do has given me many unforgettable moments, but one memory will always rise above the rest:

In 2015, I won my first ITF World Championship in the 3rd Dan patterns, just an hour after my sister Madeleine won her 2nd Dan division. Four years later at the ITF World Championship in Inzell, Germany, we did it again, winning our finals at almost the same time and celebrating together right after. Sharing those victories with my sister and closest training partner is something I’ll never forget.

Competition Highlights:

2x ITF World Champion
10x ITF European Champion
7x ITF World Cup Champion

Since 2016, Taekwon-Do has been my full-time world. I’ve been serving as the General Manager of Bergen Taekwon-Do Club, one of Norway’s largest clubs with about 1,150 members. Alongside the administrative work, I still teach several classes for children, teenagers, and even a wonderful group of adults over 60.

Last year brought a new chapter. I was elected Chairperson of the AETF Athletes Committee, a role I’m both excited and honored to take on. It means a great deal to me to represent athletes and help ensure their voices are heard throughout our Taekwon-Do community.

What’s next?:

Looking ahead, my focus is on continuing to strengthen Bergen Taekwon-Do Club, its organization, its community, and the next generation of athletes. I want to keep building a supportive and inspiring environment where members of all ages can push themselves, grow, and truly feel they belong.

I’m also excited to take a more active role within the AETF Athletes Committee. I’m motivated to help strengthen communication between athletes and leadership and to make sure athletes’ voices remain an important part of Taekwon-Do’s development across Europe.

My experience working with Mightyfist:

I haven’t officially worked with Mightyfist yet, but I did have the pleasure of collaborating with Brigitte once. She was incredibly kind, approachable, and professional. I was genuinely impressed by her dedication and everything she has accomplished. She’s an inspiring woman, and I have a great deal of respect for her and for what Mightyfist stands for.

Words of wisdom from Sabum Marielle Lind:

The best advice I’ve received by an instructor/coach:

Knowing what I know now, what would I tell my younger self:

“The greatest gift my coach gave me wasn’t advice (it was belief). Knowing that someone I admire has faith in me has pushed me further than any words ever could.”

"Trust yourself and own your choices. Every sacrifice is not a cost, but a crucial component of your path. Keep driving forward, because one day all your hard work will converge, and you will see the dream you fought for become your reality."
